Dribble the Gates
TechnicalU6–U8Difficulty 2/5
12 minutes · Any number, one ball each · 25 × 25 yards · Unopposed
Objective
- Dribble with the head up and choose where to go
Set-up and how it runs
- Scatter eight gates — two cones a yard apart — around the square, facing different ways.
- Every player has a ball. Score a point for dribbling through any gate.
- You cannot use the same gate twice in a row.
- Sixty seconds, count your own score, then go again and try to beat it.
Equipment
- 16 cones (8 gates)
- A ball each
Coaching points
- Look up to find the next gate while the ball is still at your feet
- Small touches near the gate, bigger ones in space
- Both feet — go through some gates with the left
- Find an empty gate rather than queueing behind someone
Progressions
- Must go through with the outside of the foot
- Gates are worth two points if you go through them backwards (sole rolls)
- Add one 'catcher' with no ball who can tag you
